Divebombing is an ability acquired from the Blue Orb powerup obtained after defeating StoneHead. It is activated by pressing the down arrow key while in the air. This ability causes the protagonist to increase his downward velocity, trailing a fiery streak.
While divebombing, the bird loses the capability of making a double jump in the air until he touches the ground.
Divebombing can be used to destroy pots and certain crushers. It is also necessary to land hits on some bosses as well. A couple hidden locations can only be accessed by divebombing in certain spots on the ground.
